The Power of Pregnancy Images & Pelvic Health Art: Supporting New Moms Through Education & Representation
Pregnancy is one of the most transformative times in a person’s life.
As a pelvic floor physical therapist, during that time, I was soooo glad that I had the education to help my body heal and tips to prep my body with things that I could control for a positive birth experience! I was so surprised that I didn’t get much direction with labor prep or proper core and body healing #postpartum! So I wanted to just throw this up here!
From the physical shifts to the emotional highs and lows, every pregnancy journey is unique. However, the way pregnancy and postpartum recovery are represented in educational materials, clinics, and wellness spaces often falls short of reflecting this diversity. That’s where inclusive pregnancy images and pelvic health art come in—they not only provide vital education but also create a welcoming and supportive environment for expecting and new mothers.
Here is a lil throwback pic from that time!
Why Inclusive Pregnancy Images Matter
Representation (or should we say inclusion? 😉) in pregnancy-related materials is more than just a nice touch—it’s essential for making all individuals feel seen, validated, and understood. Many traditional images in medical and wellness spaces depict only one type of pregnancy experience, often leaving out diversity in body shapes, abilities, and backgrounds.
When expecting parents see images that reflect their own journey, they feel more connected, supported, and prepared. Inclusive visuals empower all birthing people, reinforcing that their experience is normal and valued. This is particularly important for underrepresented groups who may not always see themselves in mainstream pregnancy education.
Pelvic Health Art: More Than Just Décor
Beyond inclusivity, pelvic health art plays a key role in pregnancy, labor preparation, and postpartum recovery. Beautifully designed anatomical posters, educational charts, and artistic representations of the pelvic floor serve multiple purposes:
✔ Education: Understanding the pelvic floor, core muscles, and labor positions helps expectant parents make informed decisions about their birth experience. ✔ Empowerment: Visual tools can demystify complex concepts like perineal massage, optimal birthing positions, and postpartum healing. ✔ Creating a Calming Environment: Art isn’t just about information—it’s about ambiance. Soothing, informative visuals create a supportive and stress-free atmosphere in clinics, wellness centers, and home birth settings. ✔ Postpartum Rehab Support: Recovery after birth is often overlooked. Visual aids that highlight postpartum healing techniques, pelvic floor exercises, and core strengthening encourage new moms to prioritize their health.
